Rare Old Historic Antique Nautical Chart Reproduction showing Black Rock & Bridgeport Harbors 1848

Published in 1848, this rare Coast survey chart of Bridgeport is a fine example of the early work of the United States Coast Survey.  Most of the data and work was performed under the first superintendent, Ferdinand Hassler, but was not published until after his death.  This chart was printed from a hand carved copper engraving. Printed from a stone engraving, the first chart ever produced by the U. S. Coast Survey was Bridgeport Connecticut back in 1835.  This chart shows amazing detail and numerous soundings and information on tides as well as sailing directions in the lower right margin.
