Original Rare Old Historic Antique Nautical Chart showing Middle Part of Long Island Sound 1855

This beautiful rare chart shows the Southern Coast of Long Island Sound from Forge River to Napeague Harbor. This chart was published by the United States Coast Survey in 1857.  The chart shows amazing detail, including numerous soundings and bottom types and a finely detailed topographical drawing that shows individual roads and structures. Two pilot profile drawings are shown in the lower right margin and present a “Ship’s eye view” when approaching land. Moriches and Shinnecock Bay are displayed with the inlet to Shinnecock shown. The individual Wharves in Sag Harbor as well as individual buildings are an example of the incredible detail on Coast Survey charts.
